Get the truth straight from a physician recruiter!
Physician recruitment plays a critical role in shaping the healthcare industry, ensuring that medical facilities have access to skilled and qualified physicians to provide quality patient care. However, the process of recruiting physicians can be complex and challenging, requiring a strategic and well-informed approach. In this article, we will explore three essential things you need to know about physician recruitment.
- Most Physician recruiters are your friend – even though all of them will be rewarded in one way or another for signing you, in general they are on your side and want to find a good place for you. They don’t get paid (or don’t look good) if you start a job and resign quickly after that. In general, they want to find you a good fit.
- Never Pay a recruiter money or work exclusively with 1 recruiter. This is an unethical practice by some physician recruiters. 1 recruiter will never represent all the best opportunities for you. They typically will only represent a few options for you.
- Fact Check – talk to 1 or 2 of their internal physicians before accepting. Understand the reality of schedules, bonuses/RVUs, company culture, etc. Sometimes HR or leadership teams will portray positions in a more positive way than they are. ‘Fact check’ everything they say with a physician who has been working there for a while. If the health system won’t let you talk to physicians within the health system, this is a red flag.
- Cast a Wide Net: In general, the more you interview, the more options you have then the better chance you will find your ideal position. Network with colleagues, explore job boards, and use 3rd party physician recruiters like us ( NOW Healthcare Recruiting).
- Get Help on employment agreement review. We (NOW Healthcare Recruiting) review this agreement for free, as a service. Because we see so many, we can tell you if anything is off or not normal. You can also have a lawyer review it but do know that this will stall the process significantly and lawyers will want many things changed on the agreement. Know that most health systems will change some items, but not most items that the lawyers suggest. Also know that some health systems will change no items on their agreements, no matter what any other lawyer says.
Physician recruitment is a complex and ever-evolving process that requires careful consideration of physician shortages, physician-centered approaches, and the use of technology. To successfully attract and retain top-quality physicians, healthcare organizations must be proactive in their recruitment efforts, offering competitive packages and prioritizing the needs and preferences of candidates. By staying informed about physician workforce trends and leveraging technology, healthcare organizations can build strong and successful recruitment strategies to meet the evolving demands of the healthcare industry.
