Leadership is most needed NOW.
4 Ways to Lead through Crisis:
-
- Win Today – know what you are in 100% control over and go all-in on that. Pick the 1-2 most important things you can do and put all your effort into those. Have your team do the same thing. Own today, take care of today. Effort goes into what you and your team can control.
-
- Crisis Brings Opportunity. Crisis obviously brings pain, but it also creates opportunity. Don’t only sit in the pain, look for opportunity (and have your team look). There will be lots of new ways to do things and new ways to serve people. An example for us: we can now find better candidates for our clients, we are now offering temp/locum services to our clients, we are now helping clients with TelePsych, RN and RT openings to meet demand.
-
- Over Communicate – stay in touch with your team way more often. Schedule 1 or 2 more Zoom calls each week. You can’t communicate too much right now. This puts people at ease and makes them feel like the have a work family and a real community – where everyone is in this together. Leadership is most needed right now.
-
- Have Empathy. Empathy means ‘feeling with people’. Feel with your team. Address your teams fears and tell the truth. Most people feel like they may lose their jobs at some point, be honest with them and tell them the truth. Don’t only be optimistic during these times. People can handle bad news over no news. People will follow leaders that are honest and real. Step into the pain with them.
