Always offer your best salary the first time. Never offer lower than you can in hopes to negotiate and save a few bucks. This is a big mistake, and we see it happen often. E.g. If you can offer $230-245k to a candidate, offer them $245k. If you offer them $230k and then hope to negotiate and land somewhere in the middle (only to save $3k) it sets the relationship off to a bad start. The main reason people leave jobs is because they don’t feel appreciated…if you offer them low, they are going to feel unappreciated yet again. It’s a bad way to start the relationship.
Benefits of this method:
1- You have a better chance of them accepting your offer over someone else’s.
2- You don’t NEED to give them a raise anytime soon.
3-They feel wanted and valued and they will perform better in the new position.
Thanks!
