Working from home can be hard! Especially if you don’t have experience doing it. There are lots of distractions and you are out of your normal work zone. As companies look to cut costs in the next months, you need to make yourself irreplaceable! Execute on these 10 things and protect your position.
Build an office space.
Put all the same stuff you have at your normal office but build it out at home.
Work your office hours.
Pick a schedule / don’t be late – show up on time.
Dress the same.
Dress exactly the way you would dress as if you were going into the office.
Leave home to go to work at home.
For example, leave the house at 745a take a walk or whatever, then come back at 759a and get started right away (helps psychologically).
Get a really good internet connection.
Maybe upgrade.
Set standards / expectations with whoever you live with.
Communicate with them that you need blocked off time and this is your office space. (Maybe put up do not disturb signs).
Overcommunicate.
With everyone on team and your clients.
Don’t tell family or friends you’re working from home.
They will barge in and ask you to lunch and ask you to hang out, etc
Protect personal and confidential info with secure internet, etc.
If seeing SSN #s or other sensitive information.
Over deliver on expectations / finish everything on time.
Hit deadlines with quality to build trust. If you don’t hit results, naturally people will think you are not working when you are “working” from home.
